Fallen Memory Side Story (Cato's Perspective)

What's up everybody! I'm doing this as just a side story for 's Fallen Memory. It's about Cato's perspective of New Elmore and the Federation after invading New Elmore. I'd say this is how it started before Cato got involved in the middle of the warzone. So, hope you guys enjoyed this, reviews and comments down below. I'll catch up with you guys next time! Four whole years the Rapture Federation invaded a sweet yet mischief filled town like Elmore. Now, it's New Elmore and it ain't the Elmore that I remembered. I haven't been in touch with anyone of my friends for awhile other than Amber who lives with me in a rented house. I only get to visit them like a once a month each. Well, some of them. Some of my friends like Ivan, they're not who they used to be.

My alarm clock beeped and woke me up from my sleep. I saw Amber not being in bed, guess she's downstairs. I looked in the mirror and what I saw was a white humanoid with a scar going across his right eye. Now, that scar isn't the only scar I had. I took my jacket and head downstairs seeing Amber sitting on the couch watching the television.

Cato: Anything new?

Amber: Nah, just same old propagandas.

Cato: Why am I not surprised? You ate yet?

Amber: Yeah. There's eggs and bacon on the table.

Amber really helped me a lot around the house. The both of us are practically engaged but not really official. After eating breakfast, I head out to work.

Cato: Hey, Amber. I'm going now.

Amber: Okay, sweetie.

I gave her a hug for a few seconds before I left with some drinks. After the Federation took over, I had to work in the armory with my brother to fabricate weapons. My sister on the other hand worked in the Elmore Hospital with a friend, Kelsey.

I almost forgot to mention, New Elmore is now divided into zones. Me and most of my friends ended up in the Red Zone. It's probably the bad side of New Elmore, filled with street fights, riots, and other stuff. Some of my friends were really lucky and lived in the Yellow Zone, the peaceful side of New Elmore. I think a friend, Jake, lives there. But it's kinda pity that Jake and Kelsey got separated living in two different zones. Once in awhile, Jake comes over to the Red Zone to give out supplies.

My workplace is a pretty long walk and now, I can't use my lightning powers. The Federation looks towards people with supernatural powers as "enhanced" people. These people are generally like me, Ivan, Riki, and Anna but they're either relocated, joined into the Federation, experimented on, or killed on sight when using superpowers. Ivan wasn't really lucky. When the Federation caught him when they first got here, they experimented him on a bunch of shit. Later on, they think he's pretty useful to join the Federation, so he got brainwashed and he can't remember a single thing other than his name. Everything he had, friends, family, part of his identity, forgotten. A year ago, his sisters came to my house and looked worried. When I asked what happened, they said Ivan shot his parents dead in the middle of the night. I was the lucky one and didn't get caught. I tried to resist the feeling to use it cuz I don't wanna end up like Ivan. To them, I'm just a regular humanoid working at an armory, but I'm not letting my guard down in case they know who I really am. I had a few feelings that I was about to be executed soon. My other friends like Gumball, Darwin and Carrie, I dunno what happened to them. I still wished I have my friends back.

On the way to the armory, I ran into Kelsey helping an injured kid.

Cato: Yo, Kelsey.

Kelsey: Oh, Cato. Perfect timing. I need your help.

Cato: Beaten up?

Kelsey: Yeah, pretty bad. Mind passing me some iodine in that first aid kit.

Cato: Sure.

It took me awhile to figure out which one was the iodine but I found it and passed it over to her. She poured it on a tissue and wiped it at the bruises on the kid.

Cato: I cannot understand how does that work.

Kelsey: Heh, cuz you don't take medic school. Okay, we're done now.

Kid: Thank you.

Kelsey: Stay away from the streets a little.

Kid: Okay.

The kid ran off leaving me and Kelsey.

Kelsey: So, what brings you here?

Cato: Heading to the armory. But I think I can spare some time with a friend.

Kelsey: Okay.

We sat at a bench conveniently placed at the other side of the road.

Kelsey: So, how's life?

Cato: Same shit everyday. Jake was here, wasn't he?

Kelsey: Yeah, he gave me some supplies. You need some?

Cato: Nah, I'm still good. How's he doing?

Kelsey: He's fine. Glad to see him again.

Cato: You two still a couple?

Kelsey: Are you trying to hit on me?

Cato: What? No. I still got Amber.

Kelsey: Okay, and yes. We're just distant.

Cato: Cool. Still hoping you two still together.

Kelsey: How about the others?

Cato: Ivan's brainwashed and was never seen again, Riki and Anna got relocated, my sister works with you at the hospital, my brother works with me at the armory, I dunno about the others.

Kelsey: Hmm..well, anyway, I better get back.

Cato: Yeah, I gotta get going to the armory too. See ya.

Kelsey: Bye.

It took me 15 minutes but I finally managed to get to the armory. I head to the meeting room where a few more workers were waiting for the Peacekeeper. The Peacekeepers aren't just guards patrolling this fucked up town, they're the bosses in my line of work. I sat with my brother, Andrew and the Peacekeeper just waltz into the room.

Peacekeeper: Alright, settle down. We got some news for you today. Apparently, looking at our stocks, our weapons are decreasing in the storage more than we thought it would. For now, we believe that The Resistance have been secretly taking our weaponry, but some have suspicion that some of you smuggled some out of here. Okay, next up, we need to speed up production of our weapons...

The Peacekeeper kinda went on for about half an hour until we were dismissed. Every worker is given a partner to work with in their own workshop rooms. Lucky for me, I got partnered up by my own brother. We fabricate basically any weapon they give to us. We changed clothes into our uniform and started up everything. Sawblades, fabricators, you name it. Then, Andrew started complaining about how pissed off he was.

Andrew: Oh, man. I really hate this! Why the heck am I doing this anyway?! It's not like we're getting paid enough. Hell, we're working for minimum wage. All the more, they're making us work our asses off for this shit. I might as well worked with my friends at the repair shop.

Andrew kept on going, but I heard something ticking around. I wanted to know what it was but I'm not gonna figure it out with all the noise. I shut down everything and tried to listen but all I kept hearing was Andrew's nagging.

Cato: Dude, shut up!

Andrew: Hell no, man. I'm not even..

Cato: I said shut up! Do you hear that?

Andrew took awhile to listen for it while I tried to figure out where it was coming from. I looked in a closet behind the saw blades and opened the door. Shockingly, I saw a ticking time bombed placed right in front of me.

Cato: Dude, run!

Andrew: What?

Cato: I said RUN!

We tried to run out to the hallway but time wasn't on our side. Once Andrew got to the door, the entire workshop exploded and I got sent flying through the wall and into the hallway. I was already hurt badly when things got worse. There was a saw blade flying towards me and sure enough, it cut my left arm out and I fuckin' screamed like hell.

Cato: AAAAGHH! AGH! DAMMIT! FUCK!

I kept on moaning in pain until I was almost unconscious. I saw a Peacekeeper standing over me and dragged me across the hallway. The only sight I could see before I blacked out was my left arm laying on the floor and another Peacekeeper about to pick up Andrew.

When I woke up, I looked around and I was in somewhat like a lab and my arm got stuck into a chain. Guess they can't use handcuffs on me cuz I just lost my arm! Then, I saw a Peacekeeper standing right in front of me. He dropped down his weapon and took of his helmet. I could not believe who it was.

Cato: Holy shit! Ivan?!

Ivan: Ah, finally you're awake. I was wondering when were you about to rise.

Cato: What happened to you? And where am I?

Ivan: You're in a brainwashing lab. A lot has happened to me, and it was for the better, for me and the Federation.

Cato: Then what about your friends? Your family? You fucking shot your parents dead and got your sisters scarred for life! How the fuck is that better?!

Ivan: I don't have friends. I don't have a family. I was all alone. And soon will you.

Cato: What?

It was until then I realized that Andrew was missing.

Cato: Andrew. Where the hell is my brother?!

Ivan: Here he is.

Ivan stepped aside and showed Andrew to me, stuck in a chamber.

Cato: Andrew. Andrew!

Andrew: Cato! Help!

Ivan: Nuh-uh-uh, the fun has just started.

Ivan walked towards a control panel with a lever on it.

Ivan: Now, here's how things are gonna turn out. One of you is going to get brainwashed and will turn loyal to the Federation, while the other one dies. It's as simple as that. I know what you're wondering. "Oh, why not pick me? I got lightning powers." Well, it may seem that you do, but his tech knowledge outperforms any other technician in the world. So, we decided to choose him. You've lost your parents, now you're gonna lose your brother.

Cato: No! Don't you fucking hurt my brother!

Ivan: Oh no. I won't hurt him. However, he'll hurt you very much.

Ivan let out a sly grin on his face and pulled down the lever. Smoke began going around the chamber Andrew was in and he started panicking, trying to break the glass down.

Andrew: Cato! Help! Help!

Cato: No! Andrew! Stay with me!

Andrew began to lose consciousness and lost his strength to break down the glass, instantly falling to the ground as the smoke circled around him. Ivan then pulled up the lever and the chamber door opened. Smoke began to come out of the chamber and into the vents as a figure stepped out of it. That was when I knew, the brother that was with me, the brother who had been working with me, the brother I lived my life with, is gone. Now all I see is an empty soul inside of Andrew.

Cato: Andrew..

Ivan: Now then, Andrew. Will you do anything to show your loyalty to the Federation?

Andrew: Yes, sir.

Ivan immediately gave Andrew a Night Hawk.

Ivan: Then kill your brother, as a sign that you are loyal to the Federation and would do anything to complete your mission.

Andrew: Affirmative.

Cato: Andrew..no.

Andrew cocked the Night Hawk and pointed directly at my forehead.

Andrew: Goodbye.

Suddenly, there was an explosion at the side wall and a gaping hole was made. I saw a helicopter with a bunch of people in it outside. Three of them ziplined into the lab and two of them knocked Ivan and Andrew out while the other one tried to get my chain lose.

Operative #1: Hurry it up!

Operative #3: I'm trying!

An alarm started to buzz as he was trying to help me escape.

Operative #2: C'mon, man! Move it!

Operative #3: Doing it!

It wasn't long after until he could break the chain from my arm.

Operative #2: Alright, we got the hostage! Let's move!

Operative #3: C'mon, kid. Let's beat it.

I just followed what they told me to do and jumped onto the helicopter. I turned around as we were flying away and saw Andrew standing at the hole, staring at me.

Cato: Andrew...

The door suddenly closed and the operatives told me to sit down.

Operative #3: Sorry about your friend.

Cato: That was my brother.

Operative #3: Oh, that's way harsh. Don't worry, kid. We lose things everyday.

?: And I almost lost you.

I heard a familiar voice beside me and saw Amber sitting right next to me.

Cato: Amber? What the hell are you doing here?

Amber: Long story.

Cato: Wait, then who are you guys?

Operative #3: We're the Resistance. We're a group of people who are trying to go against the Rapture Federation and bring back peace in Elmore.

Cato: So, you're like the Rebels of Star Wars?

Operative #3: You could say that.

The operative took of his helmet and showed his face. Again, I was shocked to see who it was.

Cato: Darwin?!

Darwin: I'm surprised you still remembered me. After 3 years.

Cato: Well, it shows that I always remember my friends.

I looked outside the window back to the big hole on the wall. Andrew was trying to wake up the black blue-haired humanoid.

Cato: I just want my brother back.

Darwin: Then, join us. We all have the same purpose. Restoring peace. What do you say?

Darwin offered to shake hands but I got up and stared at him dead at the eye.

Cato: I want peace, and I also want revenge. Count me in.

I then shook his hand in agreement.

Darwin: In case you were wondering, this one joined us cuz she knew you were taken.

Cato: Really?

Amber: Yeah.

Cato: Thanks.

I looked outside for one last time at the barely visible lab.

Cato: Andrew, I'm coming for ya, bro.

It was really heart breaking for me, but I decided to put that aside cuz he's no longer my brother. He's just a cold hearted, empty souled enemy. And now, I'm in the Resistance and I'm gonna do whatever I can to take back with what I lost, starting with Elmore.
